Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Friends,

Yesterday afternoon, I brought my beloved digital camera outside to be ready in case anyone did anything cute. One of the girls came out to remind me that the oven was finished preheating and it was time to put the lasagne in. I came in the house fully intending to go back outside later, but never did.

Foolishly, I'd left the camera on the bench, and our automatic sprinklers have completely soaked it. I have it drying now, but I will be very surprised if it ever works again. One of the worst parts of all is losing the numerous photos I hadn't yet removed from that camera.

This is most definitely not a serious problem, but I thought of all of you when this happened and know you will not mind saying a prayer for me that the camera will work again.

Oh, I am SO sorry. When we went to FL last January my dh got into a water fight with (all) the kids on the beach. His digital camera was in his pocket--for those cute shots. Of course, he got none of the absolutely awesome water fight-which may have saved his camera
BUT, he was able to get the pictures off the memory card so it wasn't a total loss. Here is hoping you have the same luck!!

Alice,
This is certainly worth a miracle prayer! Count on my prayers for your camera to work again.

Last month our daughter's travel cup (the kind that is supposed to be spillproof!) leaked in the "go" bag, soaking our cell phone. The phone made a horrible buzzing sound for an hour. I removed the battery and somehow it dried and it works fine. I hope the same is true for your camera.

Did you remove the battery and memory card so they can dry out? Just a thought since this I had a similar experience with an electronic.

Blessings,

Praying!

Take heart, all may not be lost.

My dh dropped my cell phone in the toilet a few years ago.    It didn't work for a few months but it eventually did work. (Nextel walkie talkie phone)

Then last month he left his MP3 player in his pants pocket and it got washed and partially dried in the dryer.    My daughter heard it banging around in the dryer. She read the instruction book which said to leave it off for several days, etc. and when it was later turned it on it worked and none of the songs were lost. (It is a SanDisk, I should send them a thank you letter, most electronic devices would not survive the washer!)

Open any parts that can be opened safely, remove any removable parts and just let it dry for a week or so before you try to turn it on.

Blessings,
Krisann

Oh, but Alice it IS a serious problem. My day is a little bleaker when I can't click into your home and enjoy the lovely photos of your beautiful family.

I will pray that it works fine after a good dry out. If it's any consolation, we have a track record going with our cell phones and, so far, we have lost only one out of two washloads, one drenched football game, and one drop in the mop bucket. Don't ask.

I'm praying too (to St. Veronica). Losing the camera WITH pictures would be a tragedy. In fact, I'd better back up those on the computer right now...

Definitely do not turn it on for several days - a week or more if you can. Once it's completely dry it will probably be just fine but if you turn it on and it's still wet it will likely short out and be done for.

I'll say a prayer.

God bless,

Prayers headed your way Alice....nothing quite like the fear of losing memories ....

As others have suggested, leave to dry -- take out as many parts as you can so air can get in (that doesn't sound like it make sense, but my mind says it does )....

Keep us posted.

I am so grateful for all of these kind and thoughtful messages. There is truly no community of women to compare to this one, and I really wish I could thank each of you individually for these priceless prayers and encouragement.

Michele, I will take you advice and keep the camera turned off this week (although I cannot imagine how I will manage it ).

Kristina and Krisann, I've removed the battery and memory cards as well. Thanks--I really ought to have thought of that.

Thank you all so very, very much.

Oh Alice, what a sad thing.

I'll pray and hope it works out. Maybe if you did get a new camera the memory card might work in it???

I second what Cay said. Praying that your camera works. As for retrieving those pictures, once the memory card is dry, you should be able to retrieve the pictures by using an external card reader from any eletronics store.

Praying here that everything works.
