Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, I really have to work on my typing. Sorry about all the typos.

it should read, "and also the idea of folding another folder in the same way....."

Now that I have that process decided I have some practical questions:

what kind of paper do you all use?

do you use legal size or letter size folders?

do you use any kind of software to help you with the creative part of the lapbooks?

Natalia........

We use mostly cardstock, often in different colors. We do use some computer paper in different colors as well, it really depends upon what we're doing, and how sturdy we need it to be.

We use letter size folders, they're easier, and I believe cheaper. Almost everything in Dinah Zike's books is divided to be either half, or a quarter of a page, so the books are often divided in that format. There are a few however that may not fit in half or quarter, for example, the layered look book. That's as big as you make it.

When that happens for me, we'll often stick something in the smaller spots like stickers, small timelines, images from the computer or books, etc. You can ALWAYS fill in with various things, quotes, small maps, stickers, die cuts, small pictures your kids have colored, small bits of info, etc.

Don't worry that they're not all completely perfect and filled in. It is best to do the project/topic, THEN put them together into a lapbook at the end.

What we do, is make the minit book (or whatever info we're learning) to fit what we're doing, and we keep them in a large gallon ziploc bag (with corners snipped slightly so the air stays out and they lay flat). Then we gather these as we go......minit books, timelines, maps, photos/images, writing assignments, stickers or die cuts we may use, etc. Then at the end, we see what we have, and figure out how big we need to make the lapbook.

You can add extensions as much as you need. If you take 2 file folders (letter size), you can glue the front of one onto the inside right side of the other, and you've then extended the room you have tremendously.

You can just add cardstock with the top folded down a little bit (to make an edge) and glue it to any of the pages inside of the lapbook to make one small extension.

You can add ENVELOPES....bigger white or manila envelopes with the flaps cut off or not to store bigger things you can't glue down (like nature specimens, etc.)

You an add library pockets (smaller envelopes) that can fit into your lapbooks as well. You can buy these at a teacher store or online. I'm not sure if office supply stores carry them, but they should.

You could even glue down a page protector with a piece of cardstock in it (so the glue doesn't show) to showcase something you want seen not in an envelope.

You're only limited to your own creativity, or the creativity of others from which you borrow... (like me). That's the beauty of this!

I hope this helps some. I don't know of any softward to help you with lapbooks.....that's a GREAT idea, someone should market that! It'd be a great way to SHOW others how to implement lapbooks into their schooling.

There are several videos that have helped many who are visual learners (like me). Dinah Zike has two with the same titles as her two most popular books (The Big Book of Books, and The Big Book of Projects).   You can also get them at www.tobinslab.com.   Tammy Dubay herself has a videow for lapbooking. Tobin's Lab has lots for lapbooking! They did have a fire in November, and are getting back on their feet. www.rocksolid.inc is also a company that carries lots for lapbooking, including I believe the Dinah Zike videos.

Take a few minutes and go through that list and look at as many examples as you can.

I started going through those a couple of days ago, but didn't get far -- so much great information! I copied a link to the thread on my desktop to remind myself to take another peek when I have more time.

You can edit your post after you post it. Look at the bottom of each of your posts. There is a row of small icons there, among which is one that says "edit." Click on this icon, make the changes to your post, and then click "Update Post." This is a great feature for correcting typos!
