Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had included this classic George M. Cohan song (1906) in the original study. This year we ran across a couple picture book versions of the song that have been published since I first did the unit. The words are the lyrics with illustrations to fit.

Grand Old Flag

You're a Grand Old Flag - This picture book is illustrated with Norman Rockwell paitings that evoke patirotism and Americana - many though not all include the flag.

You're a Grand Old Flag - illustrated by Warren Kimble in a folk art style. Each picture incorporates a flag or stars and stripes in some way.

Revisiting this old unit and thread. Every year when Flag Day approaches I think about it. I saw these cute strawberries from Martha Stewart and added them as well as a new (actually oop print, but "new" to me) on Mary Pickersgill - A Flag for the Fort (Carl Carmer)

Meant to bump this yesterday (Bump A Favorite Thread Thursday) in anticipation of Flag Day - HAPPY FLAG DAY! Feel kind of funny bumping a thread I started but we had so much fun putting this together that year. It is nice to revisit and add to it over the years.
