My daughter is 6.5, and has recently gotten interested in reading novels on her own. Before that (and some, now, still) she mostly re-read books we'd already read aloud, but she'll read new things now, and read them quickly. She's read Little House, All-of-a-Kind Family, Ramona, and some Boxcar Children. We are reading Narnia aloud now, and she won't pick up those on her own to read them. I think she likes the books to look friendly and easy, but those easy ones don't last more than a day! So we go through a lot of them. I'm really like to find books with characters her age, but those are mostly early readers, which she's finally moved past. My aunt who teaches first grade recommended Junie B Jones, but I took a look at them at the library and found them less than inspiring. Any suggestions? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything in my searches. Thanks!

Thank you, Caroline and Maggie! We've read a bunch of those, but there are some new ones in your list also. She just blew through Betsy-Tacy in a couple of hours over the weekend. I like that she likes it, but I can't keep up!

I would be careful regarding Betsy Tacy as crushes and "boys" are discussed as early as the third book I believe ...just depends on your views on all that :)

We've started reading Paddington (loads of books in that series) and recently read the My Father's Dragon trilogy by Ruth Gannet.
