Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Let's talk about the many blessings that our special kids bring into our lives

Giveaways in this forum are:
1. Book: Straight Talk: focuses on correcting childhood mispronunciations.
2. Handmade pillowcase- something to make your special kiddo smile
(will try to tailor theme to something your child likes)

My vote was "Helps my family grow in love and faith" but the main people growing are my husband and I! When I think about where we were at in our Faith 14 years ago when we started this journey I see how much God has used homeschooling to change our hearts and teach us in such great depth about His Church. What a blessing! Of course this growth spills over to our children but I honestly don't know where we would be if we had continued in our luke-warmness, and lack of knowledge!

Each of my children have brought their own unique joy to our home. From the oldest down to the youngest, each one has proved to be a great blessings and source of Grace for my husband and I.

I went with getting a new perspective. Our son doesn't have a diagnosis at this time, but everything is pointing to mild autism. It was a giant paradigm shift when autism was introduced into the picture, and it explains SO MUCH about our sweet son.

Going into motherhood I was pretty sure I Knew It All, so my son really threw me for a loop. However, once I stop and think about how he relates to the world and if I enter that world with him, everything falls into place and there's less tears (on his end and mine).

I voted for the family growth in love and faith, but it really is all of the above.
I must admit that I first became a real "Mensch" (kind of like "a whole person") when I became a mother, and stretched me with the different health issues my kids face. It healed me.

I voted for new perspective more for the adoption than Rose's actual Down Syndrome. Adopting her has given me a larger and more compassionate view of all involved. It is a beautiful thing for sure, but more complicated emotionally than I ever imaged. Now that she is a bit older, I think her Down Syndrome will play a bigger role in our lives as far as being out in public with her more. It was something I thought about as we were deciding to adopt. We would be witnesses to the sanctity of all life just by having her along with us.

She already brings so much joy and now smiles first and initiates hugs - super cute! We knew to expect that part. :)

I voted for gives me new perspective.

I think having a sick child, a child with allergies, chronic health concerns, special needs- even a child with a very intense personality- all that can really change how you live and how you view life. Nothing is ever the same.

When my dd was so sick for so long, I learned to count and recount every blessing.

Yes to all of them! But mostly I realize how without a certain child of mine, I would have a shriveled up raisin for a heart. He breaks down my dry, crusty layers and forces me to throw myself at the feet of the Almighty begging for mercy and love.

I love my Calvary...
