Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are enjoying the Smithsonian's History of America in 101 Objects book at our house right now.

I saw a copy a the library, and the title made me curious.
It is a thick book and weighs a good bit, but the stories and objects are fascinating. My dc like to flip through it and see what they can recognize. They were thrilled that item #94 is the R2D2 and C3PO costume set from the original Star Wars movie.

I like it because you can open it to any chapter and start reading- you don't have to go in order.

Last night I read about Thomas Jefferson's bible. HOLY COW! I never knew that he made his own. Evidently, he thought Jesus was just a great guy, not divine, and so he clipped and pasted the Jesus stories of his own choosing into a book of his own- the Jesus narratives.

Now I knew that TJ was not a big believer in God, but I did not know it went as far as this... interesting.

Also liked the chapter on the Conestoga Wagon and George Washington's uniform, and his famous portrait.

Thei would make a fun gift for history lovers!
