Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A few years ago, inspired by Jen, I created my own stationery basket and one for my teen dd.

For Christmas this year, I want to set up a stationery basket for my college dd. I would love to do a literary theme if possible. If not just some really pretty and useful things. I would love to hear ideas for cards etc. I will share some of my ideas below:

1. Birthday cards - trying to find some good boxed sets with varieties (have used Dayspring from Family Christian Store before)

2. Stamps

3. Monogrammed notecards (not sure of where to get these)

4. A variety of Thank You cards

5. Address labels (I make them)

6. Jane Austen notecards (various types on Amazon)

7. Saint Therese notepaper from Trademark Catholic

I am trying to do elegant and pretty and functional on a budget. I figured that I would pick up a really nice basket with coupons from Michaels.

The best stationery I saw was at the National Gallery in DC - I wish I had noted the name and brand. It was illuminated, calligraphy type - but was REALLY expensive.

I get most of my stationary from TJ Maxx/Marshals. Of coarse it's not religious, but often they have some really nice boxes of thank you's and blank cards for fairly cheap.

I would also add in some nice writing pens.

I have seen inexpensive monogrammed notecards in the $1 section at Michaels before.

First I had seen of this site. It reminded me of this company we have had as a vendor at our conference in the past. They have lovely cards and notepads.

What about adding some of her favorite tea or coffee- lots of people like to sip something while they write.

This probably only loosely fits your theme, but I've had my eye on this library embosser.

But you can get an embosser for an initial so could make own embossed monogram notecards.

Amazon has some pretty letter openers for under $10.
Etsy has really nice ones as well.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Mary - thanks for the Michaels reminder - I did well there a few years ago when setting up my stationery basket.

Tracy- the embosser idea is awesome - will have to look at it.

Melinda - I thought about the tea. I think that you can even get a Mr. Darcy tea blend. DD is a big tea drinker and last Christmas I did do her a tea basket with a tea infuser, various teas. For her birthday I got her a really awesome Jane Austen mug

Betsy - i will check out TJ Maxx. Thanks for the pens reminder too. Pilot now does disposable fountain pens which are really nice. Also she likes the pilot vtech pens in various colors.

I’ve purchased some very nice note card sets and thank you card sets from the dollar store. There are many with religious/scripture themes.

Do people seal letters with wax anymore? I thought about getting one of these and some sealing wax for my dd's Christmas stocking last year but never did.

My bff and I used to... but I haven't seen them in years. I'd like to resume it, but would there be a problem with today's postal equipment?

I also have had trouble finding stationary- the sheets of paper as opposed to note cards. Even Hallmark doesn't carry it, anymore. I've resorted to ordering online, and found a company that has Made in USA stationary and Christmas cards. So far, I really like everything I have ordered from Leanin' Tree

For the basket, maybe include a nice pen?

I just love this basket idea!!!

Oh, Marilyn, I really like this idea. I have been trying to think of something to get for my third oldest daughter and now I know. She's always asking me for stationery and she was thrilled with the bird stamps that I gave her this summer just because I love her. Thank you to everyone else for all of the additional ideas.

Thanks to everyone for ideas.

I did stop at Michaels today - and was disappointed as the had very little in the way of notes etc - and what they did have was very glittery and garish.

I did think that I might use one of Michael's pretty photo boxes instead of a basket - just because dd does not have a lot of room in her college dorm and she night need to keep the basket/box in a closet or drawer.

I am going to continue my search for pretty stationery...

Marilyn, I rechecked our Michaels and was still finding a lot in the $1 section. Cards like these:

They even had an "A" . In our Michaels this is in the area right by the cash registers - not an interior aisle. Did you see anything link these. I thought they were pretty and while have a foil embossing didn't think they were garish at all. Liked that they had these religious themes in addition to the monograms.
