I liked reading Melinda's reviews of Notgrass. I had always wondered about them and wondered if they were too reformed Protestant. I am glad for the information on FSTSS - I did not realize it covered only up to the Civil War. We are doing a year of American History next year (Grades 1-11) - the high schoolers are sorted out, I need something for Grades 1, 3 and 6. I have a lot of living books and historical fiction for US history, but was figuring a spine. I think I want Catholic, mostly because although I know a lot of American History, I am missing the Catholic emphasis. Seton's 8th Grade spine is quite good - but not for the age group I need.

This looks interesting - not sure if it will be too young for my 6th grader? I like the State emphasis, as I am thinking of doing a State by State note book.

I have The Catholic Faith Comes to the Americas by Seton and am wondering if it wouldn't be good to flesh out the NotGrass, at least as a sort of checklist.

If you haven't already, you might check out the series How the States Got Their Shapes. It is a lot of fun. It isn't organized by state, but if you already had a notebook established, the kids could add to their notebooks from the show. Mine just watch it for fun, though. I have learned a lot even though I can't always sit and watch it with them.
