Hi Moms~
We are fairly certain that our 7yo is struggling with dyslexia. Our son took the online assessment at Lexercise which said he had mild dylsexia.
The program is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading, which encompasses reading words via phonics, visual, kinesthetic, and audio exercises. Think "All About Reading"--that is also based on OG.
Because I have used AAR and AAS, I am familiar with this approach, and it seems to work well with my son--though, he is at a point where he is just stuck now and really needs more help than I can give--I think. If I knew what to do, I would do it...but I don't.
Lexercise sounds great. We have close friends in town who use it, too, and they love it.
I searched online for reviews but was SORELY disappointed that all the bloggers who reviewed Lexercise freely admitted they were also compensated (some generously) for their reviews. I have a difficult time with this.
It is $400 per MONTH! With children averaging 3-6 months. Our friends are on month 5...so I am a bit wary...but at the same time, I know the approach is scientifically solid.
I also do not want to see him struggling like this in 5,6, 7th grade. Granted, I know some kids will just struggle--but here, we have known for about 3 years that something was just not right. We obviously want to get him the help he needs--but we do not know what our best option is.
I do love that Lexercise is all based at home. We already travel so much for ped/dentist drama that I am thankful for the ease of at home...but $400!?!?!?!  I feel quite taken advantage of here...as a parent who has a child who is suffering, you feel backed into a corner. Yes--you want to help your child--but that's more than a car payment!  But if it's what needs to be done, then that is another story.
Does anyone have any experience with this company?
Does anyone have a coupon for them? I have heard that they float around out there on the web...

I do not know anything about Lexercise, but we use the Barton program at home for our daughter who has dyslexia. It is also Orton-Gillingham based and our daughter has done well with it. It is less expensive than Lexercise, but still quite pricey. Sometimes it is sold cheaper on Ebay. We have had success with this program and I would highly recommend it.

Maggie, did you ever decide to use Lexercise? I am also wary of the price, but because my daughter is about a year behind in her reading (and because they also deal with handwriting problems, which have been a real struggle with my DD), I am interested to hear reviews.

Ah! Thank you for asking! Actually, we chose to use "Easyread ", which was recommended here on 4Real. My ds has flourished in a way we couldn't have dreamed of a year ago. Easyread is based out of the UK-- but we couldn't be happier with the program. It is a combination of phonics and site reading ... which at first made me skeptical. However, it is what has worked for my ds.
It is a lot of games that my sd still looks forward to every day. And now he is reading Easyread "stories" from their online library... Think abridged versions of classics. He's into "Robin Hood" right now. :-). Every several lessons a prize is mailed to him as an achievement award through Easyread. He races to the mailbox when he knows a prize is about to come.
The staff is AMAZING!!! So willing to go the extra mile to offer tips and advice. They do phone calls and skype reviews with the parents... When my ds was still really struggling they did a skype lesson with him. Miss Maddie is wonderful!!
Cost is $200/month. Waaaay cheaper than lexercise. Friends of ours did Lexercise for 6 months and did not have much improvement.
