Our art shelves are starting to look sad and sparse - markers are used up, watercolors are depleted, color pencils are sharpened way down......We tend to do a lot of our art and crafts in the spring and summer, and I want to replenish our supplies.
Please would you share some of your fave art supplies from this school year? I am trying to get some ideas for new art supplies for my children aged 4 and up.

At Costco I bought a large multipack of colored Sharpies, which have a different feel than markers.
My dc have enjoyed using them- something different.
Also- what about adding a few rolls of duct/duck tape to the shelves?
It's amazing what kids can create with a roll of that tape!

My 9 year old has really liked his koh-i-noor woodless colored pencils, and my little ones like the crayola pipsqueak markers.
My boys do not use crayons much. When my older two were small, we had the short and chubby triangle shaped Lyra colored pencils. I've only ever seen the half sized ones from Waldorf suppliers, though it just occured to me that my husband could probably cut down the longer ones to half for little hands. Anyway, we came across one that was lost long ago and were reminiscing about how much the boys loved and used those pencils!

Prismacolor colored pencils!
Once we got hooked on these, we jettisoned our crayons -and that was years ago! They are the best IMHO, w beautiful intense color, can blended, really make the art work pop. You can also buy replacement colors in art stores of the colors u use most, and then u don't have to buy an entire new set. More expensive but a whole lot more durable (and messy)than crayons.

We have been HIGHLY impressed with the quality and affordability of the Staedtler Watercolor Pencils. I love that we can achieve the "watercolor look" without watercolor paint messes...

My go-to website for bulk supplies has always been dickblick.com. We have bought ream after ream of newsprint from this art supply company, and have never been disappointed with any of our purchases.

Bumping this up... our marker stock needs to be replenished in a big way.
Any new favorites?
I wish I could buy singles of certain colors, like red. It seems as though only Sharpie sells singles, and I am looking for just regular markers.

Watercolor pencil crayons and water-brushes are favorites. I love the way waterbrushes reduce the setup and mess of watercolors so that even my six year needs no help setting up.
Dewent has lots of lovely variants on this idea from water-soluble tinted graphic pencils (great for adding a hint of color to a pencil sketch) to water-soluble ink pencils (intense color -permanent once dry so you can layer over it -not for use without supervision)
The Koi Water Color travel kits! The postcard sized one is great for painting small pictures at the spur of the minute. The pocket sized one is great for slipping into limited space but doesn't have a thumb ring or a surface for the painting -I keep mine in a pencil case to use at home.
We also like oil pastels (a good subsitute for younger children would be Sargent white board crayons -they also lay down easily and smudge well - I also use white board crayons on laminated maps and for inspirational messages on the white tile above my sink)
