Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello, Ladies,

I am writing on behalf of a fellow Catholic homeschooling friend… Wondering if any of you have any advice for her.

My friend has an 11-year-old daughter who has Down Syndrome and verbal apraxia. This young lady made her First Confession and First Communion a couple years ago. Due to her difficulties with speech, however, my friend's daughter has difficulty with Confession. The current arrangement is that she goes to a certain priest who knows her well, she has her sins on an index card, and she hands that card to the priest who helps her to go through the written sins and assent to them.

Her mother emailed today to ask for help brainstorming whether there might be other, better ways to help her daughter with Confession. Specifically, she is hoping her daughter can become independent enough with the Confession process and communicating to the priest—that she could go to any priest anywhere, not just to a priest who has a heads-up about her special needs, etc. She asked if there was some kind of app or something else that maybe she hadn't considered that could be helpful in this regard. Another friend mentioned this app, which looks very interesting.

I told my friend I would check with all of you to find out if any of you have a child with verbal apraxia for whom you've been able to find a good solution for communicating successfully in the confessional.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer!

Elizabeth
