 I have an awesome orange lipstick that I wore all last summer. LOVED IT! I won't even freak you out more with the great orange finger nail polish that I wear. I really like orange and it goes well with my skin tones so I guess it works, or at least I think it does.

That's fantastic -- and yes, having met you, I can see those tones working with your warmer coloring and your personality! I like orange . . . on other people . . . quite a lot. It's hideous on me, though.

Anything well made, soft, and fluid. I have a long linen Gap skirt that my 20-year-old got at Goodwill some years ago and then handed on to me when her taste changed -- oh, how I love that skirt! It's a long, softly A-line, gored skirt, natural/off-white colored, perfect all year round, depending on what I wear with it. It's about to fall apart, after much hard wear, and I'm going to be bereft when it does.

If you can sew it can be worth it to save a beloved item before it's falling apart to take it apart and use it as a pattern to make a new one, if you can find a fabric that will work for it.

I'm lousy at sewing, though I can mend things by hand! I think it probably wouldn't be too hard -- if one could sew -- to make a skirt like this one, because it's a pretty basic shape.
I wish I even wanted to sew, because it would open up new worlds . . . as it is, I have one skirt with safety pins all around the hem because the buckle of my boots tore the hem out, and I haven't gotten around to re-hemming it yet. I actually wore it to church like that last Sunday, which is a little humiliating to admit. How lazy am I? THAT lazy.
I did, however, just fix the bodice of a knit Old Navy sundress I bought on ThredUp. It's a fabulous dress: the softest knit ever, in the best shade of dark teal ever, not too short (I do wear dresses and skirts above the knee, but too much above the knee and it's a shirt, in my book). It has a surplice bodice which, in its original state, was way, way too low. I could wear a t or cami under it, but in the summer, who wants an extra layer? So I put it on, pinned it where I want the sides of the bodice to meet, and hand-sewed it -- quite successfully, which for me is something. Now I'll be able to wear it as is, though I really want to find a very light, summer-weight cardigan to go with it.
So that's the extent of my prowess. I'm just not good with my hands at all. I can sew over the seam of my linen skirt at the side zipper, which is where it's starting to come apart -- the fabric's still good for the most part, but the seam is coming undone. If I nurse it along, I can still get more years of wear out of it, and meanwhile, I've got my eyes open for more long skirts in that shape.

Jodie, I've done that, too!
And Betsy, I used to love orange lipstick. My favorite shade was a coral. For some reason, as I've gotten a bit older, it doesn't work for me anymore. But I still lean toward the orangey reds. You are so brave to try the nail polish, too! What fun!

Joining in the party a little late, but.. with lots of passion!! Realised I had the book, my dd read it a couple of years back, changed her wardrobe, enthused and ..I meant to read it, finally have.
Love DYT, so much that my family are sick of me talking about it 
Funny thing was I really wanted to be a Type 2 so admire type 2's (my dd21 is a 2) but after fighting it, I realised I'm a glaringly obvious type 3 and I suspect haven't been 'dressing my truth' so on a journey to learn more

Months later, I have to say that those basic principles have really helped me to shop for clothes. I look for particular colors and drapes, and don't stop to think, "Hm, maybe," about the kinds of things I used to buy and then regret (oh, so cute, the polka-dot poplin skirt! Why do I feel so wrong when I put it on?).
I'm definitely not as ruffly as a lot of their Type 2 images, or *quite* as gypsy-ish -- there's such a thing as too much floaty stuff, in my book. And I'll never redo my house in lavender! But I do feel comfortable with and confirmed in my house's color scheme, which to some people would be BORING (basically two colors on my walls, stone or linen white, and the stone-colored walls have linen-white rather than true-white trim, for softer contrast), but which to me is calming and soft (and I can put little pops of red around -- holly berries off my backyard tree are looking pretty gorgeous on my mantel and dining-room table right now!).
I haven't spent any real time on DYT since starting this conversation last winter, and I don't think I'd want to get too sucked in beyond those basic parameters, but I have continued to find those really helpful and affirming. Glad you've been having fun with it, Erin!
