Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone know about this Catholic girls club? I know it's a Regnum Christi group. It's a girls club for ages 10-16. I received some info about one in my area and was wondering if any of you had daughters who are or had been a part of this group?

Courtney,
My dd has been in a couple of Challenge clubs and has also taken part in and been a mentor for many Challenge club activities such as camp and fashion shows.

It has been a good place to meet friends and the formation has been excellent. Challenge club meetings are pre-planned and partly scripted, so the girls are receiving orthodox teachings while still having a chance for discussions and games, etc.

That said, I'd approach R.C. with caution. Not stay away, just use caution. My dd has had many frustrations and disappointments because promised activities or leadership roles never materialized. It could have something to do with the chain of command in R.C. being so complicated that communication many times never reaches down to the girls and their mothers (at least that's what I theorize).

In addition, the leaders frequently are called away and replaced, so you may have to be prepared to start over working with someone new every year or less. A couple of clubs here were just dropped by R.C. just after the girls formed a bond and made new friendships. That was really frustrating.

So that's the good and bad of it for us.

Hi Courtney!

I think we're both in the DFW area, right?

My dd, 10, was invited to a visitor day at a Plano Challenge Club last month. She LOVED it and we decided to join on a "test run" basis through the end of this year (mid-May).   The girls in this Challenge Girls Club are sweet, accepting, loving and very kind. I have not noticed any "clique-ishness" (is this a word? )...

I am not a big joiner when it comes to activities outside the home. Our family weighs outside commitments very carefully...but my dd really loved the group and begged to go back. Her group has an "apostolate" day once a month where they volunteer to help preschool kids at a local church, they pray the Chaplet at each meeting, learn about their faith, play games, and have snacks and more. A consecreated member (female) of the Legionnaries is available for spiritual direction. There are week-end retreats led by the consecrated women. There is also an annual week-long summer camp/retreat, these can be a bit expensive, acc. to some friends of mine who have children who have attended.

One mother likened it to Little Flowers but for older kids with more activities and social opportunities...

Please feel free to PM me...I'd be happy to share my limited experience...
