Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We watched a great video last night -- Mary Cassatt: American Impressionist tht we picked up at our library.

It's a fictionalized story of how she gets to know her neices and nephew, learns to embrace impressionism and meets Degas. It's got great shots of some of her work and also introduces Louisa May Alcott into the equation.

It's a bit heavy handed in places about women's liberation and how you can do more than "just get married", but it definitely shows Cassatt as a loving woman who is trying to find her place in the art world.

The whole family (including Nana -- but not including 17yos and his grandpa who were busy watching sports ) watched and enjoyed it! A great recommendation in itself

Thank you so much for this. I showed a print of The Bath to my dds when they were tiny. Both of them spent hours looking at it. I feel it is a great one to show the intimacy of a mother and her child.
They enjoyed the others you posted, but The Bath is still number 1 favourite!

We've had fun with Mary Cassatt this Fall, and even got to attend the Seattle Art Museum's "Impressionist Exhibit" in September. I saw a new book at the gift shop that wasn't listed here, so thought I'd link:

Mary Cassatt: Impressionist Painter

Also, highly recommend the movie Mary G mentioned above Mary Cassatt: American Impressionist even for the younger bunch. There was nothing "scawee" in it and it made her very real to my kids. The "doing more than just get married" thing went right over their heads.

Thanks to everyone for all the books, movies, and posting pics, etc. This has been a great artist study for us, thanks to you!
