Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for picture books (with a clever 4yo in mind) that foster gratitude for things (in particular) and life in general. Any ideas?

I've been meaning to thank Lissa for her recommendation of Boxes for Katje connected to disaster relief service...excellent book! Along these lines is a book called Beatrice's Goat. What picture books come to your mind?

I'm out the door for the day. Have a great one!

Love,

Angie, this isn't a picture book, but it's a wonderful prayer/poem and my kids are memorizing it right now. It would be a beautiful way to start his day with a reading or each week or something. Here it is (from FPON pg. 29)

For mother-love and father-care,
For brothers strong and sisters fair,
For love at home and here each day,
For guidance lest we go astray,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.

For this new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For ev'rything His goodness sends,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.

For flowers that bloom about our feet,
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet,
For song of bird and hum of bee,
For all things fair we hear and see,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.

For blue of stream and blue of sky,
For pleasant shade of branches high,
For fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in Heaven, we thank Thee.

I hope he enjoys it, maybe you have already done this one.

We also have all the Treasure Boxes and Their Hearts Are His Garden which have LOTS of great stories in them.   *JMJ*

Meredith,

How wonderful! My dd, Mary Grace, copied the same poem for her father as a gift on his birthday a few weeks ago. He loved it; it is a sweet poem with a timeless message...

Hi Amie, sorry, I wasn't trying to be tricky with my achronym (sp??). It's _Favorite Poems Old and New_ by Helen Ferris, it is a treasure trove of poetry to last throughout your home schooling years.

Have fun and I'm so glad others will enjoy this one, there are sooo many.

How about The Rag Coat? I think the author is Ryland. I hope I have the correct title-someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Little girl who loses her father, can't go to school because she doesn't have a coat, her mom and mom's friends quilt her one from scraps?

Hello Angie,
A book my children really enjoy is LOVE IS ... by Wendy Anderson Halperin. It is based on 1Corinthians13.One side of the page shows pictures of situations of anger, envy etc. the opposite page shows a similar picture that shows expressions of love. The book also includes some information about St. Paul. I think Wendy Anderson Halperin is also the illustrator for Homeplace.
The pictures are really great!
