I'm in need of some ideas regarding artists to incorporate thier work into our botanical study this summer . Particularly male artsist would be great . I have Janet Marsh & Edith Holden's books which I can ceratyinly share with the boys but they are at an age where the male influence is greatly needed  so ideas for artist study on plants , flowers , trees would be great .

Roxie, I have one recommendation for you:Common to this Country: the botanical discoveries of Lewis and Clark
It isn't really about an artist, exactly, but it has wonderful botanical artwork. The main illustrator is a woman, but there are sketches from the Lewis and Clark journals as well.
Aside form the artwork, the text is really interesting as well, with fascinating info on many plants Lewis and Clark encountered on their travels. Just a cool book.

Oh, that does look good. Rox, are you reading about Edith Holden et al, or doing a balance of life and examining their work?
I was doing a little rabbit trail with your question. I googled Botanical artists, then Botanical artist books, and also pulled up an amazon search, scrolling down to find the male names. 
I found this site: Botanical Artists
Somewhere I stumbled across Joseph Prestele and Sons
more Joseph Prestele and William Henry Prestele
there is a book of their works, DRAWN FROM NATURE: The Botanical Art of Joseph Prestele and His Sons
some of the links don't all work, you have to search around the site, but there was an exhibition, and you can purchase the catalogue

Not that there is much about him, but I was impressed by the beautiful work.
Tasha Tudor's site had recommended this book, and sells it online The Art of Botanical Drawing: An Introductory Guide by Agathe Ravet-Haevermans.
I asked my library to carry it, and they did. It's a lovely, lovely book, with wonderful illustrations and instructions.

Jenn - I hadn't thought Tasha Tudor's website for a long time. Just spent a lovely, relaxing hour browsing over there. (I am the only one home -- don't know what to do with myself. I think this is only the 2nd time this has ever happened!)

Oh, Lewis and Clark is a great idea to fit this topic. The one that came to mind for me is Pierre-Joseph Redoute, considered to be the premier botanical artist. Best known for his florals. Tea at Triananon has this post about him as well. There is a nice picture book about him - Redoute: The Man Who Painted Flowers

Oh, thank you for mentioning Redoute, Mary! I saw this thread yesterday and couldn't remember his name. We read that book a while back and I thought it would be neat to do a unit study.

And I was remembering the St. George and Botany study that Maryan did a few years ago. Would be a fun little addition if you have the book.

Wow this is great ! I was just thinking to do a saint / monk study with the boys maybe beginning with Momma Mary & reading about Mary gardens , then Isadore , Fiacre , Fr. Kenzle etc. I must stop before I reach overload !
I've already found ST.george & the Dragon ! off I go !
