Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone know of a picture book to help demonstrate the value of obedience to parents for a 4.5 yr old? I thought such a book would be useful to help children learn this virtue.

Try

Tomie de Paola's Book of Bible Stories -- it has Adam and Eve, Abraham and Isaac, Moses and Jonah, which are all great stories for teaching obedience

An Orange for Frankie

The Story About Ping isn't Catholic but you can use it to teach obedience

you can also try the Catholic Children's Treasure Box books

hth!

I've been watching for ideas, here...

Just remembered that "Peter Rabbit" and "Tootle" are stories I've used..."The Poky Little Puppy" and "Little Red Riding Hood" are others.

Perhaps there are some stories in William Bennet's "Childrens' Book of...Virtues, Heroes, Faith, or America"?

These aren't picture books, but some other collection options may be one of Nicholson's "Devotionals Stories for Little Folks" books? "Rare Catholic Stories"? Another collection?

Now I want to start digging through these and make a list...

I second using any of the "Childrens' Book..." by William Bennet. Also "Everyday Graces" by Karen Santorum.

I third the Virtues book by Bennet and Everyday Graces! Last night I asked my 7-yo and 10-yo for suggestions and they reminded me of these!

Thank you ladies for getting back to me with your suggestions. I'm only just starting to build a children's book collection so don't know about many titles yet.
God bless.
