I wasn't sure where to put this since it isn't really nature study...

My nine year old wants to do chemistry. He is an excellent reader but I have little energy for coming up with experiments right now. A simple, fun chem book would be something he could follow on his own or with big brother help. Any suggestions for this age group? Most books seem to be geared for older children.

This isn't a book, but here is a page that has free Chemistry games that you can print off and play. Maybe an older brother or sister could play them with him. We have been doing these this year and they are so fun.

Chemistry games These are geared for 4th-8th graders. HTH.

I put (and am putting) together our own chemistry "program" for this year. My kids are 9 and 11. I would love to share it, but I am not sure how. It is too much to post here.

A whole year later so not sure if your son is still keen on chemistry but thought I'd share.

I want to highly recommend Cool Chemistry Concoctions by Joe Rhatigan! Dd 8 is loving it An older child could easily enjoy it too. 50 cool chemistry experiments, 'soda that slobbers to big bubbles that resist bursting.' Lots of fun, many are items you would have in the home.

Concludes with a simple explanation of Why it Works.

That Cool Chemistry Concoctions looks really good. It looks like the same publishers also have a physics book and, interestingly, a sports science book.

We've used Super Science Concoctions too and my kids really loved it.
