Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For all of you who love Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, The Little House, Katy and the Big Snow, Life Story, Maybelle the Cable CarChoo Choo or Calico the Wonder Horse you HAVE to read this wonderful biography that I just finished -- Virginia Lee Burton: A Life in Art. This biography does a wonderful job showing Burton's rising above adversity, living a life of joy and creativity with her husband and two sons. Seems Burton's stories are so good becuase she would read the stories to her boys and their friends -- she would keep rewriting until the boys would sit still for the whole story.

A fascinating life story that is well-worth the read, especially if you have fans of Burton's books (we love them all!).

Sounds wonderful, Mary! I'll have to check it out. We're about to row Katy in the Big Snow.

Question for MM fans, I'm ordering books for my little boys for St Nicholas' Day. We have the Little House and Mike Mulligan. If you could only pick two more which ones would you say are a must!?

Another vote for Kay and the Big Snow!!!! Wonderful book.

After that, among the others that are left I think I like Calico the Wonder Horse.

Thanks for the advice I wasn't thinking about Katy and the Snow Plow (not ever seeing one) but decided to after your thumbs up. Also ordered Maybelle the Cable Car.

Those are our next two favorites!

Katy and the Big Snow has such appeal!!!! It's one of our FAVS-OF-ALL-TIME and goes in the winter reading basket every year! And, my 5yo just loves Maybelle!

Are these for Christmas, Erin?!

We love Katy and the Big Snow, but Calico the Wonder Horse would probably be a tie, or be top after MM and LH. Boys, you know.
