Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Last year, Carole N. mentioned doing this:
Quote:

This sounds lovely. I have done something simular to this in the past.

We took the base of our Christmas tree, sawed off two lengths, and created a Lenten Log. It has candle holes (5 purple and one pink) for each of the weeks of Lent. There are some prayers that go along with it that a friend gave to me several years ago. Just llike Advent, we light the candle as we reach the beginning of the new week.

Did anyone do this last year. Our tree will go out next week and I'd love to remember to do this .... any suggestions, prayers, etc anyone would like to share?

THANKS!

Nissa had a great Craft Along for Boys! tutorial last year. This is the thread where it was discussed, with links to her blog for the details.

Here is ours from last year.

Mary, here are some threads from last year:
Something for our table for lent

Craft Along for boys

You can see Nissa's large cross and MaryM's tabletop cross.

My project didn't get done last year. I still have last year's trunk in my garage. I will try to get dh to do the same to this year's tree (but finish it). There are instructions in Before and AFter Easter: Activites and Ideas for Lent to Pentecost by Debbie Trafton O'Neal. You can read the secion at Google Books.

As far as prayers, we always use the old Advent Sunday Collect prayers for our Advent wreath lighting, so it would make sense to use the Sunday Collect prayers for each week for the cross.

My only hesitation in doing this tradition is running out of my stash of purple candles! I like having a supply on hand.

I'm chuckling because before I clicked on this thread I was thinking it was going to see how many people's Christmas trees would be up right before Lent started (since it's so early this year). Growing up I can remember many a Christmas tree that hit February!!

But... this is a neat liturgical craft to read about instead!!

That's what I was thinking too, Maryan. I can't believe how soon Lent is this year.

We did this last year....made a cross out of the truck and drilled holes. Ours looked similar to Mary's.
