I don't know if this belongs here, but I bought some cotton lawn (looks almost like dotted swiss) to make some summerweight veils for my dds and myself, for Mass). The lace ones tend to hold the heat in and get reallllly hot (and living in NC, welllll, hot isn't something you want to do to yourself on PURPOSE from mid-May thru November, lol).
Does anyone know of a pattern or patterns for different veils out there? I'd like to make them, obviously, but don't want to use my good (not cheap!) lawn to make a mistake with, iykwim.

Yeah...I am thinking I'll end up making kerchief style ones, simply because I can tie those onto the heads of my three very wiggly dds, and they will stay on, lol. And I will need something (esp once these two little boys come along) that won't get in the way.
Does anyone have a good tie on kerchief pattern, then?
I can only assume it would be pretty easy, but I am not an experienced seamstress, so I don't know how to go about it without destroying my good fabric (other than using some utility muslin to make a mock-up first...).
If anyone knows of a pattern online, or something like that, that would be even better...

I have a post on my sewing blog about a veil I made. It's all one piece which I find to be better for resisting the little hands that seek to whisk it off my head.  The measurements are there too if you want to know how it's made.
For my girls (ages 10 and 7) I made small triangle shaped lace veils and did a tight zig-zag over all the edges, pulling slightly as I sewed so that it would curl and the edges would be a little frilly (it looks very pretty). I'll snap a few pictures tomorrow so you can see what I mean. I'll measure them as well, to see what the dimensions are.
They are of a very light weight mesh type lace but they are black and I would like to do a lighter color for spring and summer.
I also sew clips onto the top underside of our veils so that they stay put. It works very well and you can't see the clips.

I have made a couple of different things for my girls and me, using this website for ideas. There are a couple different tabs....veils, lace, scarves, doilies.

Can you take a close up of the clips under the veil? I'm always curious how others do the clips.
I've sewn a hair-comb onto my lace to push it into the top of my clipped up hair, or use the comb as a barrett holding hair back on the top of my head.

One thing I had thought of in the past, that would be neat, is to use those really old napkins (the old embroidered ones?) the really fancy schmancy ones...and make kerchief veils out of those, mainly for the dds....attach a ribbon tie, and there you go.
If you do a search on ebay, sometimes, you can find 12" square ones.
Those old vintage floral hankies would also be neat, for those who prefer something a little different.

I had no idea you could make your own Chapel veils. I paid so much for my black one, and I'm hoping to get a white one before Easter, but I'm running out of time.

I did what Michele said to do on her posting  , and IT'S SO EASY! (like she said) Short zigzag while pulling around the edge. Gives it a nice scalloped, slightly curly edge.
Anyway, I made few in different sizes, different colors. It's very easy. I'll sew combs in mine, clips in my dd.
